It is not uncommon for the modern generation to see pop-ups while working on laptops or using mobile phones. These pop-up messages generally ask users to take certain actions, like clicking on the notification button or purchasing the items added to the cart. Notifications that prompt users to take a particular action are referred to as push notifications.

What is a Push Notification

Push notification are significant because they contain images and buttons for users to accomplish a task. Businesses use push notification to promote their products and brands as a marketing mechanism, and other agencies use notifications for security purposes.

Push notifications were first designed in 2008 by Matias Duarte and team, and later in 2009, Apple started sending its notifications using its cloud messaging service.

Notifications can be of two types:

  • Web-based notifications
  • App-based notifications

Web-based notifications: These notifications are for desktops and mobile phones and are sent by a website using supported operating systems and browsers. The notification can appear anywhere on the user’s screen.

App-based notifications: These are in-app notifications, and these are generally for mobile devices. The apps that have this feature are best to enhance user engagement or promote in-app actions such as purchases, etc.,
