It is not uncommon for the modern generation to see pop-ups while working on laptops or using mobile phones. These pop-up messages generally ask to do certain actions like clicking on the notification button or purchasing the items added to the cart etc. These notifications that prompt the users to take a particular action are referred to as push notifications.

The significance of Push notifications is that they contain images and buttons for users to accomplish a task. These are opted by businesses to promote their products and brand as a marketing mechanism. Other agencies use push notifications for security purposes.
The push notifications were first designed in 2008 by Matias Duarte and team and later in 2009 Apple started sending its push notifications using its cloud messaging service.
Push notifications can be of two types such as:
- Web-based notifications
- App-based notifications
Web-based notifications: These notifications are for desktops and mobile phones and are sent by a website with the help of supporting Operating systems and browsers. The push notification can appear anywhere on the screen of the user.
App-based notifications: These are in-app notifications and these are generally for mobile devices. The apps have this feature of push notification to enhance user engagement or promote in-app actions such as purchases etc.,
